Bacillus thuringiensis strain YBT-1520 is highly toxic to lepidopteran pests (for example, Helicovepa armigera and Plutella xylostella) due to the presence of the cry1Aa3, cry1Ac4, cry1Ia2, cry2Aa9, and cry2Ab3 toxin genes. One interesting feature of this strain is that it contains 11 indigenous plasmids, thereby providing a valuable opportunity to study the complexity of plasmid genetics, plasmid–host and plasmid–plasmid interactions, and the functions that these plasmids might carry.
