Data were collected in 2016 in Cau Hai lagoon, Vietnam. We measured water, seston and phytoplankton variables to assess the effects of resource availability and resource ratio on biomass and richness of phytoplankton community. Both P availability and the N:P ratio are decisive factors for the phytoplankton community in the Cau Hai lagoon and hence alterations in both these factors will lead to a shift in phytoplankton species composition and productivity.
