The purpose of this study was to find out how young Australian men perceive women, what they like and dislike about women and what attracts them about women. For reliability, some questions used previously in the following surveys were used: National Survey of Women's Attitudes, November 1984; Gender Roles in the European Community, April 1983; the General Social Survey and Harris Polls, United States; Morgan Gallup Polls and the Herald and Age Surveys, Australia. Topics covered include: best adjectives to describe women you like and dislike; attitudes to AIDS, abortion, homosexuality, women in the workforce, marriage and divorce; relative importance of female characteristics; appealing and unattractive aspects of women; topics of conversation between male and female friends; sexual frequency; contraception use and preference; attitudes towards male-female relationships. Background variables include: income, sex and age of children, household ownership status, age of respondent, country of birth, marital status, highest education level, occupation, life cycle, total number of household occupants, religion, type of dwelling.
