TheseinterimcasedefinitionshavebeendevelopedforthepurposeofprovidingglobalstandardizationforclassificationandreportingofZikaviruscases.WHOguidanceforthesurveillanceofZikavirusdiseaseiscurrentlybeingdeveloped.WHOwillperiodicallyreviewtheseinterimcasedefinitionsandupdatethemasnewinformationbecomesavailable.SuspectedcaseApersonpresentingwithrashand/orfeverandatleastoneofthefollowingsignsorsymptoms:arthralgia;orarthritis;orconjunctivitis(non-purulent/hyperaemic).ProbablecaseAsuspectedcasewithpresenceofIgMantibodyagainstZikavirus1andanepidemiologicallink2ConfirmedcaseApersonwithlaboratoryconfirmationofrecentZikavirusinfection:presenceofZikavirusRNAorantigeninserumorothersamples(e.g.saliva,tissues,urine,wholeblood);orIgMantibodyagainstZikaviruspositiveandPRNT90forZikaviruswithtitre≥20andZikavirusPRNT90titreratio≥4comparedtootherflaviviruses;andexclusionofotherflavivirusesNotes1Withnoevidenceofinfectionwithotherflaviviruses2Contactwithaconfirmedcase,orahistoryofresidinginortravellingtoanareawithlocaltransmissionofZikaviruswithintwoweekspriortoonsetofsymptoms.
