Honeybee genetic diversity predicts gut bacterial diversity

The study aimed to characterise the landscape composition and host genetic factors shaping the honeybee gut microbiota, across a regional scale. This is important for helping us to understand health and fitness differences between colonies, as well as their resilience to change. This study provides, to the best of our knowledge, the first demonstration that the genetic diversity of a social group can influence an individual's gut microbial diversity.
