Phylogeographic and Genetic Characteristics of Treponema pallidum in Japan from a Global Perspective Using Whole-genome Sequencing

We conducted whole-genome sequencing and phylogenetic analyses in order to elucidate the genetic variations and relationships between Japanese and global Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum genomes. Our findings underline the importance of whole-genome sequencing study focusing on sexual transmission routes, which will lead to a better understanding about phylogenetic features and transmission networks of syphilis.
