Summarized characteristics of all Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) patients, healthy endemic controls, and bone marrow control subjects enrolled in this study.

Subsets of these subjects were used for individual experiments, based on the order of their presentation for treatment at KAMRC or Sundar Lal Hospital. Endemic control subjects were enrolled at the same time as VL patients. Numbers of donor cells used in each experiment are indicated in the figure legends. Groups were compared for differences in age (one way ANOVA) or sex distribution (chi square) between the groups.
