VPRS 9672 Chief Engineer's Correspondence Files [Multiple Number System]

This series consists of the Chief Engineers correspondence files from 1921 to 1949. During this time two men held the post of Chief Engineer. They were H. R. Harper from 1919 to 1936 and E. Bate from 1936 to 1949.The files contain correspondence related to the supply of electricity (and how it might be done) to various country and metropolitan areas and services such as Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme, Melbourne Harbour Trust, the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works and the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board amongst others. It also documents various electricity generation schemes. These activities were central to the role of the State Electricity Commission.Much of the correspondence is internal and includes reports on planning and strategy for the delivery of electricity across the state of Victoria.
