NRS-21891 | Dr Sainsbury and the Experts [Royal Commission into the former Chelmsford Private Hospital and Mental Health Services in New South Wales]

This series comprises the patient records and information that was collated by Dr Maurice Sainsbury, specialist consultant to the Commission. The material was sent to 12 professional experts to assess and report back to the Chelmsford Royal Commission. The experts were sent a random sample of 17 patients each. The random samples were alphabetically selected by last name and registered by number. Material that the experts were sent contained a copy of a broad selection such as Dr Bailey's patient notes, diagnostic evaluation from the psychologist Evan Davies, Chelmsford admission sheets, nurses notes, charts and pathology tests. Each expert responded with a summary on each of the patients selected on the treatment that was received at Chelmsford Private Hospital.The series contains the Deep Sleep Therapy (DST) Basic Patient Data sheets which were completed for every DST admission for the period 1965 to 1979. Data that was recorded included patient number, age, sex, date of admission, date of discharge, Psychiatrist- Bailey, Gardiner, Herron, other or missing, diagnosis, date DST started, date DST finished, if ECT (Electroconvulsive therapy) given, date ECT started, date ECT finished, signed authorization, number of ECT given during admission, number of psychosurgical operations performed, after first DST admission, number of subsequent admissions, number of subsequent DSTs, number of subsequent ECTs as an inpatient (with or without DST).Patient drug regimes per patient while under the care of Chelmsford Private Hospital and incidents are also recorded by patient name and registered number.
