Panels 3 & 4, Nimrud NW Palace

Gypsum wall panel relief: showing an eagle headed spirit, in the character of fertilizer of the date-tree, and the sacred tree. The panel carries an inscription written in cuneiform script. The panel forms part of a group showing king Ashurnasirpal II, flanked by eagle-headed protective spirits. This panel originally stood at the head of a room entirely panelled with eagle headed spirits and sacred trees.
