Genome sequencing of the endosymbiotic consortia and mitochondria of Aphididae (CBGP - INRAE/UniVie)

Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) are a large family of insects that rely on obligate nutritional symbiotic bacteria (generally Buchnera aphidicola) for supplementing their nutrient-deficient diet. We aim to characterise the mitochondria and obligate symbiotic consortia from a large number of representative aphid species, with the ultimate goal of understanding the evolutionary relationships of aphids as well as the nature and evolution of their endosymbiotic partners and their impact on the evolution of their hosts.
