This survey, commissioned by the United States International Communications Agency, documents the opinions of respondents in seven countries, Britain, France, Japan, Manila, Australia, West Germany and Italy, to foreign affairs issues in 1972 immediately following Nixon's trip to China. Details of data collection procedures and agencies in overseas countries are not available. Topics include: present and future ratings of major world powers; peace achievements of major world powers; general opinions on Russia , United States and China; attitudes towards recent actions by United States and China in international affairs; agreement between the basic interests of the survey country and Russia, United States, Japan and China; peace initiatives of Russia, United States and China; confidence in the ability of Russia, United States and China to deal wisely with present world problems; rating of the current and future strongest country in the world; rating of the current and future strongest country militarily and economically; direction of overall success of major world powers at present; assessment of United States involvement in regional and world affairs at present; possibility of United States defence assistance to survey country; opinion of policies and actions of Russia and United States in the Arab-Israeli, India-Pakistan and Vietnam situations. Background variables include: country of survey respondent; sex, age, age group, years of formal education and education group of respondent.
