Sphingomonas sp. strain S2M10 was isolated from a PES/PVP hollowfiber membrane used for tap-water filtration. Bacteria belonging to the sphingomonads are known for biofilm formation in technical systems, thereby causing hygienic and economical problems. Thus, the molecular mechanisms of biofilm formation are of interest for developing genome-based antifouling strategies.
