Epigenetics in trypanosomatids

The project aims to investigate the epigenetic mechanisms in trypanosomatids, focusing on understanding how modifications in gene expression without altering the DNA sequence contribute to the parasites' adaptability and pathogenicity. By elucidating the roles of histone modifications, DNA methylation, and non-coding RNAs in these organisms, the research seeks to uncover potential therapeutic targets for diseases caused by trypanosomatids, such as Chagas disease. This work is highly relevant, as it could lead to novel strategies for controlling and treating these parasitic infections, which pose significant health challenges in many regions worldwide.
