It was previously unknown whether S. rosetta was a haploid or a diploid or whether this species could undergo sexual reproduction. The polymorphisms in the samples presented here demonstrate a history of meiotic recombination and hence sexual reproduction. Additionally, some of the samples are heterozygous diploids and some are haploids, representing different stages of the sexual cycle.
