TEMIS UV index and UV dose MSR-2 data products, version 2

The TEMIS UV index and UV dose data are computed from the assimilated global ozone field at local solar noon, i.e. at the moment the Sun is highest in the sky, which in case of the UV dose is combined with the daily variation of the position of the Sun above the horizon. The UV data products are made for specific action spectra: erythemal UV index, erythemal UV dose, vitamin-D UV dose, dna-damage UV dose. The assimilated global ozone field used for this record is the Multi-Sensor Reanalysis (MSR-2) ozone record [Van der A et al, 2015, doi:10.5194/amt-8-3021-2015; dataset doi:10.21944/temis-ozone-msr2], which initially covered the years 1970-2012. This period has been and will be regularly extended to include subsequent years. In 2023 data over 1970-1979 was recalculated with updated ozone measurements and at the same time extended backwards to 1960. Clear-sky UV index and clear-sky UV dose data cover the whole world; cloud-modified UV dose data is not provided for the MSR data record.
