资源简介:
The role of culture environment is an important consideration in determining the relativesusceptibility of shellfish to marine heatwaves (MHWs), with research to date suggesting thatintertidally-cultured shellfish may have improved physiological resilience to stressor events incomparison to subtidally-cultured individuals due to an exposure history comprising daily emersion events in the former. In order to investigate how initial culture in the intertidal zone may serve as a means of conferring resilience prior to subtidal deployment for commercial grow-out, a common garden experiment was carried out with juvenile Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas). Oysters were cultured according to standard industry practices at a shellfish aquaculture farm for one year under intertidal or subtidal (i.e. suspended culture) conditions. After that year, animals in the intertidal were transplanted to the subtidal site, with both treatment groups then cultured together under subtidal conditions for a period of five months (May-September). During this time, the microbiome and gene expression of both treatment groups were tracked in relation to a MHW event. The BioSamples submitted as part of this BioProject are 16S rRNA gene sequence reads from the digestive glands of Crassostrea gigas individuals involved in this common garden experiment.
