Root-associated mycorrhizal fungi from the tree diversity experiment MyDiv (November 2019 sampling)

MyDiv is three-level tree diversity experiment considering monocultures, 2-species, and 4-species mixtures of deciduous tree species either known to be associated to ectomycorrhizal or arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (see Ferlian et al. 2018, doi: 10.1002/ecs2.2226 for details). The tree communities consisted of only ectomycorrhizal, only arbuscular mycorrhizal or both mycorrhizal types. The experiment was set-up in March 2015 and encompassed 80 experimental plots, each containing 140 trees in a 1 m planting distance.In November 2019, 200 root samples, one per plot and tree species, were taken. In total, samples from 20 monocultures, 30 two-species mixtures, and 30 four-species mixtures were used. The mycorrhizal fungi were assessed using Illumina MiSeq sequencing of the small subunit (SSU) gene and the internal transcripted spacer region 2 (ITS2).
