Observation was conducted at four sites with different altitudes in southeastern extension of Daba Mountain in western Hubei Province during May–Sep 2016. Needle samplings were collected for analyzing needle mass, leaf mass per area (LMA), nitrogen content based on needle area (N<sub>area</sub> content), carbon content based on needle area (C<sub>area</sub> content) and stable isotope ratios of carbon (δ<sup>13</sup>C) and nitrogen (δ<sup>15</sup>N). Soil samplings were collected for measuring nutrients content including ammonium, nitrate and total nitrogen.<br>
