Rhodotorula mucilaginosa has probiotic properties and exhibits diverse habitat including soil, water, plants, animals and local fermented food products. It can be used as a probiotic because it can improve animal/human health, promote beneficial bacteria, and antagonize the pathogens. R. mucilaginosa is a natural producer of carotenoids, which are antioxidants that can help prevent cancer and enhance immunity.So far, R. mucilaginosa has shown probiotic capacity essentially in veterinary applications and little is known of its human use. In addition, this yeast can be use as a bio control agent, lipid and pigment production for industrial and medicinal use. This study is indented to explore probiogenomic aspect and a correlative animal study for the management of metabolic disorders using an indigenous Rhodotorula mucilaginosa SAHK_MKPY (OQ538129) isolated from locally fermented yogurt, Karachi, Pakistan.
