Bibliographic Dataset for the Systematic Review of Road Performance under Flood Conditions

This dataset is the result of a systematic literature review. It contains structured data on 215 scientific publications and other sources addressing road infrastructure performance under flood conditions and related hydrological hazards. The dataset is organized into fields covering bibliographic metadata (full reference, authors, publication title, year, country of the case study, and institutional affiliation of the first author) and the coding used in the review. For each reference, it records whether the study addresses each of the 25 factors affecting road performance under flood conditions (F1–F25: Yes/No), whether it applies functional and network-based (FN) or structural and pavement-focused (SP) assessment methods (Yes/No), and its role in the review (Core, Factor-only, Method-only, or Background). Of the 215 references, 190 were coded, while 25 background references, used only for context, were not coded and are marked NaN. Data were collected through a search of Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, covering publications up to 2026 without a predefined starting date, followed by screening and snowballing of the reference lists of key studies. Multiple thematic search strings were employed to identify studies related to structural and functional performance assessment methods, the different factors influencing road performance, and the vulnerability and resilience of roads under flood conditions. The dataset supports further research, bibliometric analyses, and the identification of research trends and knowledge gaps related to road infrastructure performance under flood conditions.
