Extracellular microbes are required for mosquito development even in the presence of Wolbachia

This study was performed in the context of the publication "Extracellular microbes are required for mosquito development even in the presence of Wolbachia" (Serrato-Salas et al, Plos Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2025). In this experiment, we performed Miseq 16S profiling of pools of adult males or females of Culex quinquefascistus derived from field-collected eggs and reared either in non-sterile conditions, or surface-sterilized as eggs and reared as larvae with an auxotrophic bacterial strain of E. coli, that is removed by a change of diet during mosquito metamorphosis.
