Allotments Historical Data Collection, 1793-1873

<p>The Allotments Historical Data Collection is a set of seven data sets relating to the history of allotments in England between 1793 and 1873. The largest of these data sets is the Combined Allotments Database, which consists of <span lang="EN-US">3503 records for 2281 unique allotment sites, each record containing 22 fields. This is the only systematic list of nineteenth-century English allotments and their attributes (such as number of tenants, plots, plot size, rent etc) in existence.  It was assembled in two phases, the first between 1992 and 1997 as part of the research for a PhD, and the second between 2003 and 2010 as part of the Family and Community Historical Research Society's Allotments Project.  This second phase drew on the voluntary efforts of about 30 local historians.</span></p><p> </p><p><span lang="EN-US">Further information can be found on the <a title="Family and Community Historical Research Society" href="http://www.fachrs.com/Projects.html">Family and Community Historical Research Society</a> website.</span></p>
