Cockroach gut microbiome response to environmental temperature shifts

The goal of this study is to understand how the gut microbiome of insects responds to shifts in environmental temperature. We subjected a laboratory population of adult American cockroaches (Periplaneta americana) to either a baseline room temperature (20-22C) or 30C treatment for 14 days and collected hindgut samples for 16S metagenomic analysis. This study informs experimental approaches when researching ectotherm-microbe symbioses and insect responses to climate change.
