Assateague Island National Seashore Lidar; Unclassified Point Cloud

Product: These lidar data are unclassified and minimally processed LAS 1.2 files; used to create intensity images, DEMs, and spatial metadata such as the maximum surface height rasters. These data are from a single flight line that met the appropriate geospatial accuracy parameters. Geographic Extent: This dataset covers approximately 25,296 square meters of Assateague Island National Seashore in Maryland. Dataset Description: Assateague Island National Seashore 2021 lidar were to be collected at a nominal pulse spacing of  0.05 m. The data were developed based on a horizontal projection/datum of WGS84, Universal Transverse Mercator, meters, with no vertical datum. Lidar data was delivered as flightline-extent unclassified LAS swaths and as processed unclassified LAS 1.2 files. Ground Conditions: Lidar was collected in May of 2021 while no snow was on the ground and deciduous vegetation was greening. In order to post-process the data to meet ASPRS vertical accuracy guidelines, the Naval Research Laboratory Remote Sensing Division established ground control points for a building found in the lidar flight area. These checkpoints from this building were used to assess the veritcal accuracy of the data. These checkpoints were not used to calibrate or post process the data.
