This data set consists of a single result set gathered from a questionnaire distributed to 122 medical students at Jordan University during the academic year 2015-2016.
The related cross-sectional study was conducted in the School of Medicine, Jordan University during 2016. Medical students not yet enrolled in skills lab training were recruited to the study. 64 6th-year and 58 4th-year medical students were invited to complete the questionnaire exploring their experiences, including their confidence in performing certain clinical procedures.
The file is in .xlsx format, accessible via MS excel or open office applications.
Coded responses to the following criteria are recorded for each respondent:
eight statements on respondents' expectations of laboratory training and skills, on the following four-point Likert scale:

Strongly agree
·
Agree
·
Disagree
·
Strongly disagree
respondents' confidence in nine clinical skills on the following four-point Likert scale:
· Not confident
· Somewhat confident
· Very confident
· Able to do independently
scores of ability level in nine clinical skills on the following scale:
1 to 10: 1 being least skilled and 10 being most skilled
The survey questions were obtained from an anonymous literature review. Identifiers of research participants have been removed to preserve anonymity.
BackgroundClinical skills labs in Jordanian medical schools are relatively new. The related study explores medical students' expectations of skills lab training in performing certain clinical procedures including suturing, vascular access, intradermal and intramuscular injection, male and female catheterization, nasogastric tube placement, rectal examination and rectal enema, and endoscopy simulation. Furthermore, it evaluates the need for further utilization of the skills lab.
