Firefly bioluminescence is widely used in biotechnology, but numerous questions on the biochemistry and physiology of firefly bioluminescence remain. This is a RNA-Seq experiment of a single adult male Photinus pyralis posterior abdomen (lantern containing segments), followed by de novo transcriptome assembly. The goal of this project to help provide genetic resources for further study of the firefly bioluminescence.
