The purpose of an admission register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school and their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school.These volume contain information generally pertaining to each student including: date of admission; pupil's name; gender (volumes 9 and 10); date of birth or age; religious denomination; and name of previous school. The following details are generally recorded about the child's parents or guardians: name, residence, occupation, and whether Father, Mother or Guardian (volume 10). The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade, or grade/form entered and left, date of leaving the school and destination of the student (occupation entered into or other school enrolled in) on leaving school is also generally recorded.Admission registers in paper format ceased in 1999 when the department moved to recording enrolment details in electronic format.
