EPC 2070 was granted by the Department of Mines and Energy to Jindal Steel & Power (Australia) Pty Ltd (JSPAL) for a period of five years from 27th June 2011 and renewed for another 5 years in 2016. This exploration lease consists of 42 sub-blocks and 16 sub-blocks have been relinquished in 2019. The region around the EPC 2070 is as known as the Folded and Faulted Zone of the Bowen Basin with complex geology. JSPAL studies indicate the possibility of Rangal Coal Measures at feasible depth.
