Safety and security in local communities, 2017

The research is a continuation of the research titled "Feelings of unsafety and the role of police in the provision of security on a local level, 2012". It is based on a literature review of safety and security in local communities, which is based on a partnership between the police and local self-government. Modern police activity emphasizes a partnership relationship with local self-government and the local population. Hence, the research examines the similarity of attitudes of police officers and residents regarding the role of municipalities and the police in the provision of security. The purpose of the research was to determine the opinion on the provision of safety and security among the adult residents of 24 selected municipalities in Slovenia and the police officers who perform their work in the same municipalities. The research was conducted in 2017 in urban, medium-sized (mixed) and rural municipalities. The survey included the same municipalities as in the previous implementation. With the survey, the researchers examined perceptions of safety and threats to safety, tested the theory of community policing and the active cooperation of the police and residents and municipalities in ensuring safety. 520 police officers and 1266 residents participated in the survey. A police response file (ScUF and PUF) and a resident response file (PUF) are available for reuse. For researchers (code ARIS), the SCUF version of the data file "Policisti = Policemen/Police officers (gender neutral)", intended for scientific research, is available on request (original values ​​of the variables: Police station, age and education). A previous version of the survey is also available in ADP (ADP IDNo: VALOS12).
