Preliminary Study Of Butterfly Diversty At Jasdan, Rajkot, India

The butterflies play an important role as the pollinator, carries pollen from one<br>flower to another. Their larvaeact as the pest, injurious to various crops.<br>Present study was carried out at Hingolgadh area,Jasdan, Gujaratduring<br>October 2013 to December 2013to record the speciescomposition of<br>butterflies. During this study a total of 15 species and 04families were<br>reported.The reported families Nymphalidae covered 42.85 %,<br>Papilionidae21.43 %, Danaidae 14.29 % and Pieridae21.43 % biodiversity of<br>butterflies of the study area. In Nymphalidae included, JunoniaOrithya,<br>Junoniaalmanac, Bybliailithyia, Hypolimnasbolina, Hypolimnasmisippusand<br>Cynthia cardui. InPapilionidae included Pachlioptaaristolochiae,<br>Papiliodemoliusand Papiliopolytes. In Pierinaeincluded Danauschrysip pusand<br>Danausgenutia. In Pieridae includedCeporanerissa, Catopsiliacrocale<br>andColotisetrida. Species diversity index (H') was highest (1.12) in case of<br>family Nymphalidae compared to other.It is suggest that butterfly species<br>diversitygenerally increase with increase in vegetation and declines with the<br>increase in disturbance.A detail study is required for further exploration of<br>butterfly fauna of Jasdan, Rajkot, Saurashtra.
