Investigating the correlation between the diameter of a tree and the distance to nearby trees

Meta-data:Distance between trees - Data was collected from 10 different pairs of trees along transect. Measurements (in meters) were made at breast height from the edge of tree 1 to the edge of tree 2. The most nearby tree to tree 1 was used as tree 2. Only adult trees were measured and were determined as such if the tree appeared to be twice my height (5'7").Diameter - Data was collected from each tree of each pair along transect. Measurements (in meters) were made at breast height through the width of the tree's trunk. Condition of tree - A scale given in the lab protocol was used. 0=dead, no leaves on tree. 1=living, &gt;25% of visible sky. 2=huge green canopy, &lt;25% of visible sky. Canopy coverage was determined at the highest, visible, central point of tree at about a 1 meter radius from that point. If another tree's canopy was above the tree being measured, only the measured tree's canopy was taken into account.<br>Methods: To examine whether there was a correlation between the diameter of a tree (maturity of tree) and the distance of nearby tree, 10 pairs of trees were analyzed. A transect measuring tape was set up in a woodlot in Danby Woods. Along the length of the transect, measurements from nearby trees were used as data. The distance between two nearby trees was taken, along with the diameters of each tree. The condition of each tree was also recorded as either 0 (dead), 1 (living) or 2 (large green canopy).<br>Hypothesis: There is a significant correlation between the diameter of a tree and the it's to nearby trees.<br>Predictions:1. The greater the diameter of the tree, the greater distance there is to a nearby tree2. The smaller the diameter of the tree, the lesser distance there is to a nearby tree3.
