File List Hierarchical_State-space_Model.r (MD5: b9421ca192bdb4b8eef80046af09e73f) EXAMPLE.bug (MD5: 39f166eec1ac022206cb1e4c56910dcc) Description This Supplement provides the R code ("Hierarchical_State-space_Model.r") and the WinBUGS code ("EXAMPLE.bug") for applying a hierarchical state-space model to analyse movement trajectories (displacement distance and turn angles) of GPS tagged animals. The analysis requires both R (R Development Core Team 2013) and winBUGS (Lunn et al. 2000) to be installed, as well as the R2WinBUGS library which enables R to send and retrieve data to WinBUGS. The input data must have a unique identifier for each animal, an x and y location of every animal at each time step, the distance travelled from the last location, the direction of turn (in radians) relative to the direction from the last time step (i.e., a correlated random walk), and a series of environmental covariates that describe the habitat at each location (i.e., variables which might alter the distance and direction the animal chooses to move). The original code was written by J.M. Morales.
