Microbiome of recirculating aquaculture systems under different particle loads (MikroRAS)

Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) are commonly used in salmon smolt production. The microbiota in water and biofilters is essential in RAS. In the MikroRAS study, we carried out an experiment with six pilot-scale RAS with Atlantic salmon. Three systems were operated at high (7 mg/L) and three at low (1-2 mg/L) particle loads. We utilised amplicon and shotgun microbiome sequencing on water (0.2 and 8 um filters) and biofilter-biofilm samples.
