In October 2022 a Klebsiella pneumoniae strain (ST101) producing variant KPC-3 was isolated from a patient hospitalised with UTI. This case was identified as a putative HvKPST23, in the framework of the ECDC Rapid Risk Assessment on the emergence of hypervirulent K. pneumoniae ST23, resistant to carbapenems, in the EU/EEA countries.
