Red imported fire ants cause ecological and economic damage as an invasive species that has spread globally, including in China. Soil microorganisms are crucial for soil health, and loss of soil biodiversity can impair ecosystem functions. Fire ant invasion significantly impacts soil microbial communities, which affects the overall ecosystem. This study has found that RIFA invasion alters soil microbial community composition and negatively impacts ecosystem functioning. Effective management strategies are needed to mitigate the negative impact of invasive species on native ecosystems.
