Mexican chile pepper landrace and global chile pepper cultivars

Landrace chile peppers from Mexico provide a wealth of morphological and genetic diversity. This study characterized the diversity of a collection of these landrace chile peppers, and compared these landraces to a global collection. This allowed us to identify possible sources of diversity left behind in the bottleneck of domestication, and provided us with insight into the differentiation of long-standing chile pepper landraces growing near the center of genetic diversity in Mexico.
