资源简介:

Abstract This paper introduces the Holmes Water and Paramagnetic Lens (Holmes Lens) — a new optical system that solves a decades-old problem in liquid optics. The key innovation is architectural: separating optical function from shape control into two distinct layers. A pure water layer provides 95-97% light transmission, while a paramagnetic fluid layer beneath it responds to magnetic fields for precise shape adjustment. This separation eliminates the light-scattering problem that plagued previous magnetic fluid lenses. The Holmes Lens operates wherever surface tension can dominate over gravity — in orbital microgravity, on the Moon or Mars, or at appropriate scales on Earth. Applications range from giant space telescopes to solar energy concentration to adaptive optics in medical and scientific instruments. The implications extend as far as human imagination is willing to go.
