This series consists of licences issued by Queen Victoria to various individuals permitting them to obtain guano, pearl oysters, beche de mer, cocoa nut oil and other materials from islands in the South Pacific. The licences give details of the licensee, the location of the island, the date and terms of the licence, the rent or royalty and to whom it was payable. The licences were transmitted to the Governor via despatches from the Secretary of State for the Colonies with one copy being given to the licensee and the other being kept by the Governor's Office.
