Rhipicephalus spp. from Greece (2024)

The Rhipicephalus sanguineus species complex, referred to as R. sanguineus sensu lato (s.l.), is distributed globally with some species distributed in specific regions and others spread globally. This study sequenced the entire mitochondrial genomes of R. secundus (approx. 15 kb) from Greece and matched it to genetic sequences and morphology from the type material from Israel. The R. secundus vouchers came from sheep. Additionally, mitogenomes of R. bursa from goats in Greece is described. This research provides a molecular reference for R. secundus, a tick species distributed in Eastern Mediterranean region.
