Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is the etiological agent of caseous lymphadenitis (CLA), a disease that affects different groups of animals worldwide, specifically sheep and goat in production areas. Infections by this bacterium are responsible for a significant economic impact, such as decreasing meat yield, damaging wool, and leather, decreasing reproductive efficiency, culling of affected animals and increasing morbidity and mortality rates. The MEX1 strain was isolated from a retropharyngeal abscess of a female goat in the city of Ixtenco, Tlaxcala/Mexico.
