Extraction of Phytoliths from Hammerschmiede sediment

Phytoliths are siliceous and or calcareous mineral deposits in the cells of the higher groups of plants like pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms. Phytolith study is a quite important research area in field of paleobotany, paleoecology and archaeology where the major emphasis is laid on the phytolith morphological identification. This representative study within science practice 1, MSc Geoecology course, was performed to understand the paleovegetation of Hammerschiemiede through the phytolith assemblage.
