Mass of Reef Top Sediments in the Wistari Platform

Wistari Reef is a lagoonal platform reef, situated on the Tropic of Capricorn, within the Capricorn and Bunker region of the southern Great Barrier Reef. The results indicate that between 14.5 and 16m of CaCO3 sediment has accumulated on the reef top, which totals 5.3 x 108 tonnes.This is broken down into the detrital and frame zones, providing their respective sub-totals. The detrital zone comprises the lagoon and sanded reef flats, while the 'frame zone' comprises the reef edge and the reef flats.
