We intensively measured 17 leaf functional traits of 55 woody species (n = 875 - 1761 individuals) across a successional gradient in tropical forests in central Panama (9°13′N, 79°47′W). We measured leaf photosynthetic capacity (Amass), specific leaf area (SLA), leaf mass area (LMA), leaf dry matter content (LDMC), leaf toughness (L_Tough), lamina density (Lamin_Dens), hemi-cellulose content (HemCell_mg_g), cellulose content (Cell_mg_g), lignin content (Lignin_mg_g), foliar Al (Al_mgg), Ca (Ca_mgg), K (K_mgg), Mg (Mg_mgg), N (mgg), and foliar C:N (foliarC_N_mgg), N:P (foliarN_P_mgg), and C:P (foliarC_P_mgg). <br><br>Here, we present species' means of these functional traits in standardised format, with the following columns: scientificName, traitName, traitID, traitValue, traitUnit, traitNameStd, traitValueStd, traitUnitStd, and measurementID. Trait standardisation was performed using the "traitdataform" R package (Schneider 2018) and scientific names were harmonized based on the The Plant List using the "taxonstand" R package (Cayuela et al. 2019). <br><br> If you use these data, please cite these articles: <br>Craven, Dylan, Jefferson S.
