资源简介:
This commentary explores whether the foundry model, which transformed the semiconductor industry, can also succeed in biomanufacturing. While the answer is yes, the model must adapt to the unique challenges of biology—namely variability, regulatory complexity, speed, quality, and intellectual property constraints. Unlike semiconductors, biotech products are living systems, making reproducibility and regulatory-grade reliability more critical than simple cost reduction. The analysis argues that bio foundries become transformative not by acting as outsourced factories, but by providing standardized interfaces from design to production to validation, supported by data, software, and process intelligence. The most defensible competitive advantage will come from a Process Operating System—the accumulated manufacturing data and know-how that enables consistent, high-quality output. Ultimately, bio foundries may both democratize innovation by lowering entry barriers and concentrate power by centralizing manufacturing expertise.
