The Sumai 3, Rollag, and Glenn wheat genome sequencing project aims to generate high-quality reference assemblies for these important wheat varieties. Sumai 3 is a well-known Fusarium Head Blight (FHB)-resistant variety widely used in global wheat breeding programs due to its strong resistance to Fusarium graminearum, the causal agent of FHB, a devastating disease that reduces grain yield and quality. Rollag, developed with Sumai 3 in its pedigree, exhibits similar FHB resistance, making it a valuable breeding resource. Glenn, while not directly derived from Sumai 3, has demonstrated strong resistance to FHB, suggesting the presence of alternative genetic mechanisms contributing to disease resistance.These genome assemblies, generated using PacBio HiFi long-read sequencing and chromosomal conformation Hi-C data, will provide valuable insights into the genetic basis of FHB resistance and other agronomic traits. Comparative analyses of Sumai 3, Rollag, and Glenn will help identify key genomic variations associated with disease resistance and wheat improvement.
