资源简介:

SWCD Conservation Easements are located throughout the county and were established to permanently protect streams and wetland areas. Stream buffers of 50ft or more are established in these easements to protect the health and water quality of the stream by filtering pollutants from entering waterways, preventing soil erosion of stream banks, and providing wildlife habitat. The vegetation of these buffers includes deeply rooted, native trees and shrubs of multiple species that act as a sponge to filter nutrients and slow flood water. Additionally, this vegetative growth along the stream keeps the stream cooler, which benefits the health of the stream and the macroinvertebrates that live within. These easement projects are monitored annually to ensure compliance and were funded through grant funds. Durham County Soil and Water District 201 E. Main St.; 5th floor Durham, NC 27701 919-560-0558 or sscully@dconc.gov
