Canterbury Regional Council Constituencies

This dataset is the definitive version of the regional council constituency boundaries as at 1 January 2026 as defined by the territorial authorities and/or Local Government Commission, and maintained by Stats NZ. The data has been edited to include only the Canterbury Region Constituency 2026 | Stats NZ Geographic Data Service This dataset is the definitive version of the regional council constituency boundaries as at 1 January 2026 as defined by the territorial authorities and/or Local Government Commission, and maintained by Stats NZ. This version contains 58 constituencies, excluding ‘area outside regional council constituency’ Constituencies are established under the Local Electoral Act 2001 and result from the division of a region for electoral purposes. If a regional council decides to have a Māori constituency, the constituencies within the council are known as general constituencies and Māori constituencies. Constituencies are divisions of regional council areas. They are defined at meshblock level, and do not coincide with the statistical area geographies. They are created, based on population, to be the voting areas within councils. Constituencies are required to reflect communities of interest. Their boundaries, so far as is practicable, coincide with those of territorial authorities or wards.本数据集为截至2026年1月1日的区域议会选区边界最终正式版本，由地方领地主管部门（territorial authorities）及/或地方政府委员会（Local Government Commission）划定，新西兰统计局（Stats NZ）负责维护。该数据已完成编辑，仅包含坎特伯雷大区选区2026 | 新西兰统计局地理数据服务（Stats NZ Geographic Data Service）。本数据集为截至2026年1月1日的区域议会选区边界最终正式版本，由地方领地主管部门及/或地方政府委员会划定，新西兰统计局负责维护。本次版本共包含58个选区，不含“区域议会选区外区域”类选区。选区依据《2001年地方选举法》（Local Electoral Act 2001）设立，源自为满足选举需求而对区域进行的划分。若区域议会决定设立毛利选区，则该议会下辖的选区分为一般选区与毛利选区两类。选区为区域议会辖区的划分单元，以网格块（meshblock）级别进行定义，与统计区域的地理范围并不重合。其基于人口数量划定，作为议会内部的投票区域。选区需体现利益共同体的属性，在切实可行的范围内，其边界应与地方领地主管部门辖区或管理分区（ward）的边界保持一致。
