Data supporting the study: Dutch National Climate Consultation 2023

This dataset is about the 2023 Dutch National Climate Consultation. The objective of this consultation was to investigate the social acceptability for stringent national climate policy mixes using Participatory Value Evaluation (PVE). In a PVE citizens advise on a specific decision-making problem of a government, by putting them ‘into the shoes of a policy maker’. In an interactive virtual environment, designed in collaboration with members of Parliament, policymakers and experts, 11,582 Dutch citizens advised their government about the implementation of increasingly stringent policy packages towards 8 climate policy directions, thereby creating their preferred policy mix. Meanwhile, they received information about costs, benefits and fairness effects, including the effect on the Dutch ecological footprint.
