VPRS 514 Alias Index Male and Female Prisoners

Series comprises an index to aliases used by male and female prisoners.Details recorded are:- registered number (from VPRS 515 for males and VPRS 516 for females)- alias- recorded name- register number (either VPRS 515 or VPRS 516)- page (in the register)The commencement date of the series is very uncertain. There are no dates recorded against entries however the earliest entries in the index are for prisoners that are registered in register 1 of VPRS 515, c.1851. However it is not known whether VPRS 514 was created contemporaneously with the original entry in VPRS 515, probably unlikely. Therefore the date range of the series has been arbitrarily set at 1871 the commencement date for the Penal and Gaols Branch of the Chief Secretarys Department VA 1464.
